If you've never put sweet potato in brownies before, you're probably raising an eyebrow right now.
We get it.
But before you scroll away, hear us out.
Sweet potato is the secret ingredient that gives these brownies their incredibly soft, fudgy texture without needing loads of butter or refined ingredients. Once baked, you won't taste the sweet potato at all. What you will get is a rich, chocolatey brownie that's hard to stop at just one piece.
These brownies are naturally gluten free, dairy free and made with simple pantry staples, making them perfect for afternoon tea, lunchboxes or those moments when a chocolate craving strikes.

Tips for the Best Brownies
Don't Overbake The brownies will continue to set as they cool. Taking them out slightly underdone will help keep them moist and fudgy.
Let Them Cool As tempting as it is to cut into them straight away, these brownies are much easier to slice after they've cooled.
Use Good Quality Chocolate Because chocolate is the star of the show, using good quality dark chocolate chips and cacao powder makes a noticeable difference.
Storage Store in an airtight container for up to 4 days at room temperature or up to 1 week in the fridge. These brownies also freeze surprisingly well. Simply slice, freeze individually and thaw when needed.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use pumpkin instead of sweet potato? Sweet potato works best because of its natural sweetness and texture, but pumpkin can work in a pinch. The flavour and texture may be slightly different.
Can I make these vegan? Yes. This recipe is already dairy free and contains no eggs, making it suitable for a vegan diet if your chocolate chips are vegan-friendly.
Can I use oat flour instead of almond meal? Absolutely. Both work well in this recipe and produce slightly different textures. Almond meal creates a richer brownie, while oat flour makes them a little lighter. Browse our range of flours and meals to find the right option for your pantry.
Can I reduce the sweetness? You can reduce the coconut sugar slightly if preferred, although this may affect the final texture. Explore our full range of natural sweeteners for alternative options.
