Role of Active Ingredients

Two of the most volatile oils found in Black seed are Nigellone and Thymoquinone which were first discovered in the herb in 1985:

  • Nigellone offers both anti-spasmodic and bronchodilating properties which contribute to Black Seed's potency against respiratory ailments. It also acts as an antihistamine which helps to reduce the negative symptoms of allergy sufferers.
  • Thymoquinone contains excellent anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties. It is also a strong anti-oxidant and helps cleanse the body of toxins.

Both nigellone and thymoquinone work in conjunction with one another to enhance Black Seed's action against respiratory ailments. It also provides a healthy alternative to the more commonly prescribed cortisone based therapies used by allergy sufferers.

A deficiency in polyunsaturated fatty acids can lead to a wide number of health problems including nervous system disorders, uninhibited growths, and skin diseases. Black Seed provides a rich supply of polyunsaturated fatty acids. These ingredients play a key role in daily health and wellness. They help to regulate metabolism, carry toxins to the skin's surface for elimination, balance insulin levels, regulate cholesterol, improve body circulation, and promote healthy liver function

A study conducted in 1997, Dhaka, Bangladesh sough to investigate the antibacterial activity of the oil of Nigella Sativa (Black Seed) compared to five antibiotics. The Nigella Sativa oil proved to be more effective against many strains of bacteria, including those known to be highly resistant to drugs.

Researchers from Tulane University in the United States have found that Black Seed oil from the Nigella Sativa plant is found to kill prostate cancer cells, found in lab studies. It was found that a substance found in Black Seed Oil- known as Thymoquinone (TQ), has anti-cancer properties that suppress the growth and lead to death of aggressive prostate cancer cells.

Immune-boosting properties

In 1987, a study conducted at I.I.M.E.R. Panama City, Florida verified the immune-supporting action of Black Seed. Two randomized groups of volunteers received one-gram of Black Seed capsules twice daily or a placebo. A complete lymphocyte count carried out before and after four weeks of administration revealed that the majority of subjects who took Black Seed displayed a 72% increase in helper-to-suppressor T-cell ratio as well as an increase in NK (natural killer) cell functional activity.

In the field of AIDS research, human clinical trials conducted at the Department of Biological and Medical Research Center in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia (1997) showed that Black Seed enhanced the ratio between helper T-cell by 55% with a 30% enhancement of NK cell activity. These findings suggest that Black Seed could play an important role in the treatment of cancer, AIDS, and other immune deficiency states.
