Health Benefits of Garlic:
Garlic is one of the oldest known medicinal plants, and it's been credited with fighting heart disease, lowering blood pressure and helping to fight off colds.
For middle ages men and women, heart attack is one of the most common conditions that could turn to be fatal for their lives. One of the main reasons for unexpected hear attacks is high cholesterol levels in the body. People often turn towards rigorous exercises, prescription drugs and diet plans in order to bring down the cholesterol levels, thereby reducing the chances for heart attacks. However, most people are unaware of the fact that garlic can be good cholesterol reducing agent.
A recent study conducted by German researchers has proven that garlic, when taken in a specific quantity will bring down the level of cholesterol in the body. This study stands as a testimony that several natural medications for human diseases still remains unknown to humans. Garlic, for example, was found to much more effective than placebo, which is the most often prescribed medicine for cholesterol patients.
The therapeutic qualities of garlic are nothing new. Sanskrit records reveal that garlic remedies were pressed into service in India 5,000 years ago, while Chinese medicine has recognised garlic's powers for over 3,000 years. Although Alexander Fleming's discovery of penicillin in 1928 largely took over from garlic, World War One overwhelmed the capacity and garlic was again, the antibiotic of choice.
Scientists have also looked at the role garlic plays in helping prevent the formation of blood clots. A review of recent clinical trials, published in the Journal of Hypertension, showed that taking garlic tablets cut volunteers' blood pressure by between one and five per cent.
Research into the benefits of garlic are continuing all the time and some scientists have been reviewing evidence that suggests it may even help to protect against stomach cancer. The thinking behind this is that the allicin compounds, contained in garlic, may help prevent cancerous changes in the stomach wall.
There is little doubt that a little garlic, every day, can go a long way in helping to protect, as well as boost, your health.
